Chief of EMS
Nathan Tabor
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division is under the direction of the Chief of EMS, Nathan A Tabor. The Division provides direct and logistical support to the Operations Division in all issues regarding EMS. The Chief of EMS provides for the oversight of the daily execution of duties required by the EMS staff. This includes the direct oversight of the EMS Operations Budget, the administration of all quality assurance and improvement programs, management and oversight of the medical patient care report system and continuous supervision of the overall management of policies, procedures and guidelines as coordinated with the fire department medical director.
Chief Tabor continues a public service tradition to the citizens of Shreveport following his grandfather Chief Floyd Tabor, a career Shreveport Fire Department member for 36 years, together contributing a current combined service time of 63 years. Chief Tabor began his career under the Chief Dallas Green administration in 1984 and progressed through the operations division as Firefighter, Fire Medic Driver /Paramedic and Fire Engineer. Chief Tabor became a Certified National Registered EMT-Paramedic in 1991. Tabor received his Associate Degree in Paramedic and also his Bachelors in Organizational Management. Tabor’s love of the EMS field has molded his public service career as a dedicated EMS Professional. He entered the EMS Office as an EMS Officer, promoted to Assistant Chief of EMS and now serves as Chief of EMS.
Chief Tabor serves on multiple committees. He currently serves on the Homeland Security MMRS board, OHSEP Emergency Planning Committee, participates as a PEER reviewer for the FEMA Firefighter SAFER grant. He has received Awards for Meritorious Service for Outstanding Performance and the EMS Officer of the Year Award. He is a member of the IAFF and the IAFC and is a Pro Board Certified Health and Safety Officer and Incident Safety Officer.

About EMS
The EMS Division is responsible for planning, development, implementation and clinical oversight of all Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support medical care for the City of Shreveport. The Division manages the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Performance Management (PM) section for the Department. The CQI/PM team reviews and analyzes system performance with the goal of improving patient care and reducing clinical risk. This section researches and provides comprehensive data analysis, develops statistical reports, tracks and documents investigations of clinical concern, manages medical records, maintains biomedical equipment and actively coordinates with the EMS Billing and revenue program.
The EMS Staff includes the Chief of EMS, Assistant Chief of EMS, three EMS Officers two Stock Clerks and an Administrative Assistant.
The Fire Department EMS operations currently utilize ten paramedic ALS units. Two EMS Supervisors provide continuous field oversight and respond to all cardiac arrests and major incidents. EMS incidents account for %72 of the total fire department 911 requests. The EMS operations for all City special events are planned and staffed through EMS Division.
