Engine (Pumper)

An engine is a fire truck which carries hose, water supply, ground ladders, other miscellaneous fire and emergency medical equipment. It has a pump that boost the water pressure to the deck pipes or hose that firefighters use to fight the fire. The engine is manned by a captain, a driver and two firefighters who are EMTs or Paramedics. Shreveport has 22 engine companies in active service.
Medic Unit (Ambulance)

A medic unit is an ambulance with medical equipment to treat most medical emergencies and stretchers to carry the injured or sick people to hospitals. They are manned by two firefighters which are paramedics. Shreveport has 10 medic units in active service.
SPRINT Car

A SPRINT (Single Paramedic Rapid Intervention Non-Transport) Car is manned by a paramedic, fire captain, and the driver of the hook and ladder truck in the station. When there is an emergency medical call in the SPRINT Car's district the truck company will go out of service while the car makes the call. When the SPRINT Car returns to the station the truck company will be placed back in service. If a fire call for the truck company comes in while the SPRINT Car is on a run, the nearest truck company will respond to the fire. Shreveport has 3 SPRINT Cars in active service.

EMS Supervisor

Officers in charge of medic units and unusual or difficult medical emergency calls are called EMS Supervisors. The vehicles they drive are either a Chevy Tahoe or Ford Expedition. Shreveport has 2 EMS Supervisors in active service. C-82 is the North EMS Supervisor and housed at Central Station and C-83 is the South EMS Supervisor and housed at Station 19.
Battalion Chief

A Battalion Chief is the chief officer in command of a particular fire district in the city. He is in charge of the firefighters at the stations in his battalion's district. He responds to all fires and special calls in his district or to any district in the city when he is directed to do so. His driver is a captain who is the safety officer for any incident that the district chief if assigned to. Battalion Chiefs drive either a Ford F-250 or Dodge Ram 1500. Shreveport has 6 Battalion Chiefs in active service.
Truck (Hook and Ladder)

A truck is a fire truck which carries a long telescoping aerial ladder. Some ladder trucks carry a 75 foot aerial ladder, while others carry 100 and 107 foot aerial ladders. They also carry several other ground ladders that can be extended to different heights. The aerial ladder also has a pre-connect water nozzle attached to the top end of the aerial ladder. These trucks carry salvage and miscellaneous equipment and are manned by a captain and a driver. Shreveport has 7 hook and ladder truck companies in active service.
Brush Truck

A brush truck is a combination of an all terrain vehicle and mini-pumper. Shreveport Fire Department has two of these uniquely designed units. SR-11 is in South Shreveport and at Station 13. SR-12 is in North Shreveport and at Station 2.
Rescue Truck

A rescue truck is a special fire truck which carries four firefighters and specialized equipment for firefighting and for such things as extracting people for car wrecks. The firefighters on this rig are specially trained for special rescuing people trapped in fires, building collapses or car wrecks, etc. They are also trained to handle hazardous material spills and water rescues. This truck is manned by a captain, driver and two firefighters. They are all EMTs or Paramedics. Shreveport has 2 rescue units in active service.
Charlie Truck

A Charlie Truck is an aircraft fire rescue truck which carries large quantities of water and foam. It has remote controlled high pressure nozzles, hoses and special tools for performing aircraft rescue. It is manned by a captain and a driver. Shreveport has 3 charlie trucks in active service.
