The Stations' speakers announced a house fire in the 1400 block of Harvard Street about 9:00PM on Sunday night, July 27, 2008.  Engine 4 arrived on the scene and reported a house totally involved with fire.  They laid their own supply line and began protecting the exposures on the B-side of the structure.  When District Chief 2 arrived on the scene he took over command.  It was a defensive fire from the very beginning.  Since it was a very hot and humid night, extra companies were ordered to the scene for manpower.

Neighbors reported that a man lived in the house, and his whereabouts was unknown.  After the fire was knocked down enough a search of the structure was made.  The search was a slow process as fighters had to go through the rubble piece by piece.  S.F.D. cadaver dogs were requested to assist in the search for a possible victim.  While one of the dogs identify an area of concern it was not until mid-morning that the body of the 70 year old man was found.
