Chief Adams passed away a 2:30 a.m. December

Adams had been in a relatively comatose state since

until Adams is buried with full firefighter honors some time next week.
Those arrangements will be announced by Crawford's office as soon as
they are available, a release from the city said.
Traci, the members of Signal 51 extend our heartfelt symphony to
you, your daughters, other family members and members of the S.F.D for
the loss of Tommy. During this difficult period, I know you will
draw on your faith and deep personal resources that so many of us have
come to respect and admire about you.

Update 2-24-09
From Steve Hill
Chief
made it through the
surgery. I had heard
that they were going to
try and fuse the C2
through C5 vertebra
together. There was no
swelling on the brain
and the spinal cord was
not damaged. There is
still no movement in the
upper or lower
extremities, but
remember, that he is
still deeply sedated. We
probably won’t know much
more until they bring
him out of sedation.
These next 24 to 48
hours will be critical.
Update
3-3-09
From
Steve Hill
Tommy is
still on the vent, he is
breathing some on his
own now, which is a good
sign. He is not in quite
as deep a coma as he
was. His condition is
still classified as
critical, but he is
stable. It is a good
sign that he is
breathing some on his
own. He will have to
come out of a coma
completely before they
can determine if there
will be any paralysis or
not.
Update
3-4-09
From
Steve Hill
It is
felt that Chief Adams
will be sent to a re-hab
facility soon.
This should give him the
best chance at making a
full and complete
recovery.
Update 3-6-09
Chief Adams has been
flown to Atlanta,
Georgia to the
Shepherd Center.
Shepherd Center
specializes in the
medical treatment,
research and
rehabilitation for
people with spinal cord
injuries, acquired brain
injuries, multiple
sclerosis, chronic pain
and other neurological
conditions.
Update 3-9-09 From Capt. Rita Bush
Chief has
been removed from the
ventilator and is
breathing on his own,
but is being carefully
monitor and will be
placed back on it if
need be.
