Around 9:30am Caddo 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call about a possible house on fire at 8417 Denny Drive. Although the address was closer to a Shreveport fire station it was still outside of the city limits. Caddo Parish Fire District #4 was immediately dispatched along with Caddo Parish Fire Districts #3 & 6 responding mutual aid. Minutes into the response Shreveport Fire engine 13 was dispatched to the run as mutual aid and responded on SFD Main. Shreveport Fire Investigator Chris Robinson, who is also a member at Caddo Parish Fire District #4, arrived on scene first and took command of the incident. Shreveport Fire engine 13 was first due and was advised to pull a plug at Denny Drive and Meriwether Road. Heavy fire was visible from the roof of the home upon arrival. Engine 13 crews went in on fire attack but had to evacuate minutes in due to the roof collapsing. Engine 13 put their deck gun on the house to control the fire. Sig51-11 responded initially but ended up needing more rehab supplies for firefighters. Sig51-02 and Sig51-03 responded with extra supplies. Shreveport Fire medic 17 arrived and setup rehab in a funeral home parking lot across the street. Two additional Shreveport units were called (Engine 7 & Engine 17) for manpower. The fire was eventually brought under control and was smoldering for half and hour. 3 1/2 gallons of class "A" foam was used to keep the fire from spreading. One dog died as a result of the blaze. No other injuries were reported. Shreveport Fire Department and Signal 51 Group were on scene around 4-5 hours.
